So what do you guys think of the SOPA and PIPA strike that may or may not happen tomorrow the 18th and the 23rd the day before it could be passed.
In a recent development in the fight against SOPA, a number of websites have joined hands and decided to literally strike against the bill. Keep in mind there are two bills, the infamous SOPA and a more dangerous PIPA, both of which are to be passed on January 24th if the congress votes in its favor. Major names like Reddit, Mozilla and many others have decided to go dark on Jan 18 to show they are not kidding around.
If you still don't know what SOPA is, read our articles on it here. Two other major websites namely Twitter and Wikipedia are also possibly going to join the fray but it's not confirmed yet. The strike is going to be a massive hit on the internet. Reddit alone carries a majority of the internet's population, if it goes dark, others are sure to follow. This is what's on the Strike Against Sopa website:
On Jan 24th, Congress will vote to pass internet censorship in the Senate, even though the vast majority of Americans are opposed. We need to kill the bill - PIPA in the Senate and SOPA in the House - to protect our rights to free speech, privacy, and prosperity. We need internet companies to follow Reddit’s lead and stand up for the web, as we internet users are doing every day.
It's anyone's game now, things could go either way. I just hope a physical protest and riot doesn't occur because of this. Reddit users are serious at what they do and are notorious for giving and taking fame away within seconds. The plot thickens.
